Sol Gutierrez, Photographer
Hello. I am Sol Gutierrez. I am an adventurer, wanderlust, artist, photographer, entrepreneur.
When I am not taking photos, I enjoy traveling, laughing with friends, enjoying nature, learning to knit, and hanging with my awesome cat. I particularly enjoy doing all of these at the same time.
I love to create pictures that tell stories. Weddings suit me perfectly as I am fascinated with the connections we have with others in our lives. I love that I get to document people in their most honest and beautiful moments. I aim to capture the honest goodness that I see. In the landscape, in the day, in you and in your love, lover, & loved ones. I take pride in my job, not only as a photographer but also as a storyteller, and produce work that is classic and honest with an emphasis on non-intrusive documentation. My style has been described as organic, modern and photojournalistic. I capture what I see and I hope to capture what I feel about it all unfolding before me. I am drawn to images that feel romantic, emotive, and that have a strong sense of place.
I like to approach all assignments as a collaboration with my clients. I never ask couples to do anything that is not true to who they are but I do want to experiment and to challenge us both. Your wedding and portrait sessions with me will be non-traditional, non-formulaic and 100% fun.
Megan Kathleen, Assistant Photographer
Megan is a sweet soul with incredible talent. As humble as can be, a pleasure to have around, easy to work with, and always willing to travel from her home in Chelan to any venue in the Methow Valley to assist in capturing the beauty of your day. I love love her work and I believe she is worth every penny and more. Packages that include this lovely talent will add another perspective, another angle, and another 400 or so images to your collection.
Home base is in Winthrop, Washington. Winthrop is a rural town located in the Methow Valley; a little piece of natural heaven located just leeward of the North Cascades of Washington state.
Some Q & A
How did you learn photography?
My dad always had a camera and one high school day I picked it up. I had always been involved in some kind of visual art (drawing, painting, etc.) but photography really stuck with me. I took photo classes in high school and continued learning through college when I photographed mountain bike races and friends' weddings while studying biology. Over the years I've continued learning through courses, seminars, and experience. I still haven't learned everything. Photography, especially now with the quickly growing digital era, is a continually evolving art.
Can you travel for weddings and portrait sessions?
I love to travel and do it as often as possible.
What kind of equipment do you use?
I use Canon professional gear. The list is long. Email me of you want the deets.
Will we get to keep copies of the digital negatives?
Absolutely! I always include high resolution digital negatives.
Do you do engagement sessions, bridal sessions, photo booths or any of that other stuff we've seen?
Yep! If you can think of it, we can figure out a way to make it happen.
How would you describe your photographic style?
honest, classic, photojournalistic.
What's involved in booking you for our wedding?
To book me for your wedding date, I ask for a 50% deposit with your contract. I book on a first come, first serve basis. The balance is due the day of your event.
What's involved in booking you for a portrait session?
To reserve your session date, a 50% deposit and signed agreement are required.
Do you have recommendations for what to wear for our engagement or portrait session?
Yes, wear what you are comfortable in and makes you feel GREAT and try not to be too matching. If you feel good it will come through in the images.
How many photos do we get in the end?
Usually its somewhere between 700 and 800, plus creative renditions of about 25% of your originals(see example below) . So, around 1000 total files. Each is edited with custom coloring and style one at a time. And you get all of those in full resolution on a disk.
How long will it take for you to edit our photographs?
It takes between 8 to 12 weeks for me to individually edit all of your photos and upload them to your private gallery. Please understand that I want to make sure that every photo meets my high standards before you see it and this level of craftsmanship takes a bit of extra time.
How long will it take to receive our prints or album?
Print orders are processed on a first come, first serve basis and usually take between 1 to 3 weeks for editing, printing, and delivery. Album orders are also processed on a first come first serve basis and take roughly 10 to 18 weeks to receive, after your final approval. Albums are custom designed, printed, and bound and I want your feedback on them so the speediness of the entire process will partially depend on your availability.
Why should we print through you?
Great question. I work with a professional print service. Every print made is shown in it's true and correct color. Also, every photograph is printed on a high quality Kodak photographic paper of 100 year archival quality to ensure it lasts for generations. Ordering prints and other products directly from your gallery is super simple and your prints usually arrive within one week. So that is rad, too. That said, I won't be offended if you wait to print on your own, from your disk, from whichever printer you choose.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes, and if you'd like, I can set up a registry for your guests to contribute to your wedding package, in the form of photography time, album or prints.
